BackA Real Buzz about Books
Posted on: 13 Nov 2019It was almost like Christmas on Friday 8 November when every student in Year 7 received a reading book of their choice as part of the Bookbuzz scheme. Friends of The Misbourne provided funds to purchase these books – as well as further books for our library. Mrs Hallesy from the FOTM team and Headteacher, Ms Meloni presented the books to the two students from each form. The books were then distributed to a very excited Year 7 cohort.
Mrs Hallesy remarked "It was great to see what Friends of The Misbourne’s fundraising work can bring to the students. It was a privilege to be able to give each Year 7 student a reading book of their choice which will inspire their love of reading for years to come."
Literacy Coordinator, Ms Weller led the assembly and promoted the value and importance of reading in our lives. She explained that while she had never met Queen Elizabeth I, fought in the First World War or time travelled, she had been able to experience them through the gift of reading. She also wanted students to understand that whilst reading could take us on all sorts of journeys, help us learn more about our world and make us more tolerant human beings, better reading skills were also going to help us achieve and be more successful in school and later life. She said “We would really like to express our appreciation to Friends of The Misbourne for their support. We hope the students enjoy reading their books and appreciate the value of reading.”
