Home Learning

Home Learning is set regularly because it gives students the opportunity to consolidate learning and helps them develop important academic skills needed to be successful in their subjects. It also helps our students to become confident and independent in their learning, which will help throughout their time at school and beyond.  Evidence has shown that students completing home learning to a high standard improves learning outcomes (EEF T&L Toolkit 2020, Evidence Based Education 2022).

All home learning activities are set in Class Charts for Years 7 - 11 and Google Classroom for Years 12-13, supporting students' organisation and allowing family members to receive information via email summary that enables them to support their child.

As we operate a two-week timetable, all students have the same allocation of lessons across the fortnight but the weekly number may differ. Consequently, we indicate how much home learning is set per fortnight as it isn’t possible to create a consistent weekly schedule.

Home Learning is not routinely set across school holiday periods. Where appropriate, academic intervention activities may be set on a targeted basis over school holidays at the discretion of the class teacher. Similarly, it will often be necessary for students with pending examinations to plan revision or coursework completion over school holiday periods.
